An attic of about 95m2 that starts from two small apartments open to a generous longitudinal terrace. The original distribution with which our client acquired the property, already joined both pieces in a single house, but with a somewhat convoluted and parceled distribution. When their children become independent, a good opportunity opens up to rethink their daily way of life. And here we enter.
Our proposal implied important changes with respect to the original distribution. We renounce a room, but we expand and reunify the social area of the house in a bright and spacious space that brings together the living room, dining room and kitchen. In fact, the kitchen is relocated in the space occupied by one of the two individual rooms in the original layout. In addition to improving the zoning of the house, we got a large social space where to gather family and friends around a table. Now, with this open distribution, preparing something to eat also becomes a social activity while maintaining the disposition and proportions of a traditional cuisine. A small and simple office completes the set that acquires modularity thanks to a huge sliding door that is fully integrated and almost invisible thanks to discrete white handles, in case we need privacy or at any given time we need another room.
If in the original distribution a long corridor surrounded the kitchen to reach the social area, now we find no trace of any corridor. In its place and in front of the entrance door, we find a reception area that acts as a distributor and link between the social area and the area of the rooms and toilets. From there, we have access to a large room with a window to an interior patio, a full bathroom that gives service, as well as any visits. We also have access to a large double room with bathroom suite and a small dressing area with access to the large terrace. The built-in wardrobe in this room is the only piece of work that we keep from the previous arrangement of the house.
Finally, the terrace has been completely remodeled, as well as the enclosures that, with large windows, offer a fluid connection between interior and exterior. Due to the orientation of the house, mostly to the west, the house has an abundant entrance of sunlight in the afternoon that we sift without the need for curtains with the installation of mobile shutters. Our performance is completed with the removal of some old garden planters that filled the outer polygonal profile. In this way, we gain amplitude and simplicity for a terrace that we have completely waterproofed and covered with teak wood slats, in the same way as the dividers with the adjacent terraces.
To finish, we mentioned a curiosity. According to the tastes of our client, there are only recessed lights in the bathrooms and in the kitchen. The rest of the lighting is achieved by the different lamps scattered around the house and switched through the plugs and switches. And before the collection of original pieces that make up the different scenes, we have absolutely nothing to object. In fact, the distinction between technical and decorative lighting loses all meaning. The lamps, all of them emblematic design pieces, fulfill perfectly their double luminous and aesthetic function, giving light to a house that has us in love and in love.
In our projects we take care of the whole process: from the definition of the distribution, to the construction and production of the project to the smallest detail. Together with the client, we define spaces, materials, furniture, textiles and art and decorative pieces as parts of an integrated whole. In this case, we started with a certain advantage: our client already had almost all the furniture and lighting. So from the beginning we included it in our proposals as fundamental pieces of the interior design project. A box perfectly designed for a collection content.
